April 8th at 4 p.m., the choir of the Congregational Church will present Gabriel Faure’s “Requiem." Although Faure used the traditional Latin text of the requiem, he is far from traditional in his musical setting of that service. His warm melodic sense, enriched by a unique and, for his time, daring harmony brings a very satisfying freshness to the requiem text — a text that has attracted almost every major composer from the earliest music to the present day. In addition to the six movements from four, five and six part choir, the work contains two segments for baritone solo which will be sung by Russell Cloud. One movement for soprano will be sung by Emmie Mackay. Joseph Erwin will direct the performance and accompany at the organ. Everyone is invited — Reporter Golf Monday Polk County, Smoky Mountain, Mitchell, Mtn. Heritage, T.C. Roberson. Hendersonville at Holly Forest. Thursday Brevard.
